20080518 Magnitude 6 quake hits Sichuan

A strong aftershock, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, jolted Jiangyou City of southwest China's Sichuan Province at 1:08 am on Sunday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter of the latest temblor was located 32.1 degrees north latitude and 105 degrees east longitude, it said.

Jiangyou, a city in north Sichuan, is situated near Beichuan County and Mianyang City, places hardest hit by Monday's magnitude 7.8 earthquake.

The tremor was the latest strong quake monitored following more than 20 aftershocks above magnitude 5 that rocked the hardest-hit area in Sichuan. No casualty and damage in the area has been reported so far.
